From Germany's northern Black Forest, the 100-kilometre (62 mi) Enztal cycle path leads you to where the Enz flows into the Neckar. You cycle through the river’s enchanting valley, which is sometimes surrounded by the forested hills of the Black Forest, and sometimes by wide meadows, imposing steep cliffs or picturesque vineyards.

In this Collection, I outline the trail over two stages. The first stage is just over 40 kilometres (25 mi) long, the second just over 50 kilometres (31 mi). The entire cycle path is mostly downhill, so you can just let it roll over long stretches. The starting point of the adventure is Gompelscheuer, part of the municipality of Enzklösterle, where the Enz river rises. You can reach the starting point by taking bus 7780 from Bad Wildbad or Freudenstadt. At weekends, the bus also takes bicycles. In Besigheim, your destination, there’s a railway station and the Neckar Valley Cycle Path. You can continue your journey either by train or by bike in the direction of Stuttgart or Heilbronn.

Along the Enztal cycle path, you’ll not only see beautiful landscapes with lots of nature, but also pretty towns with historic centres that invite you to linger and stroll. Beer gardens, wine taverns and farm shops keep you fueled along the way. In Pforzheim, the first stage’s end point, there’s a large selection of hotels and guesthouses. Alternatively, you can find camping sites along the route if you want to take your tent. With these ingredients, the Enztal Cycle Path is the ideal adventure for an unforgettable weekend on the saddle.
