The largest natural lake in the Alps is shared between France and Switzerland and boasts breathtaking scenery, historic villages and vibrant towns. Discover the picturesque vineyards of the northern shore, the unspoilt nature of the eastern tip, the Alps stretching almost to the water on the French side, and the Swiss metropolis of Geneva in the far south.
In this Collection, I show you how to complete the 190-kilometre (118 mi) Tour of Lake Geneva over four stages. The starting point is Geneva's main railway station, accessible by regional and long-distance Swiss trains as well as from France. I’ve chosen to present the Tour in a clockwise direction and the stages are between 41 and 58 kilometres (25 - 36 mi) long. They all end in a town or city with rail and boat connections across the lake. You'll find accommodation in all the stopover towns. If the starting point in Geneva doesn't suit you, you can begin the loop at any other point on the route.
On your cycle Tour around Lake Geneva, you’ll pass through stunning and varied landscapes. You’ll cycle along the flat shores of the lake and climb to the terraced vineyards of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lavaux. In Grangettes Nature Reserve, you’ll find an oasis of peace, while cities such as Lausanne and Geneva are bustling with life. You’ll cycle through both Switzerland and France: the cultural mix of the two countries is the exciting icing on the cake of this charming loop, which is sure to find a special place in your heart.
