Germany’s Westerwald region is not only rich in forests, but also in bodies of water; large lakes, shimmering ponds and rushing rivers are all waiting to be discovered. A view of the water makes cycling twice as pleasant and refreshment is never far away. Hardly any element exudes a greater attraction, which is why this Collection brings you close to the glorious waters of this area.

Like the water, you’ll drift through the landscape and discover exciting highlights such as castles, monasteries and half-timbered towns. Be sure to bring your bathing suit so you're always ready for a dip in the cold water. The Westerwald also has a few sweaty metres of altitude waiting for you so a cool down is often welcome. This Collection also offers family cycling Tours and easy rides.

You can cycle around the ponds and lakes near Dreifelden on the 20-kilometre (12.4 mi) cycle circuit Seenplatte. In addition, there is an adventure playground, a miniature golf course and a lido along the route, all of which promise fun for young and old. The 5-Lakes Cycle Path is a stunning ride with magnificent views and resting places by the water. However, with 80 kilometres (50 mi) and 1,000 metres (3,280 ft) of elevation gain, it demands a lot from your calves. For a more relaxed ride, simply divide it into several days.

A great day trip is the Nister-Wiesensee Tour, which takes you on a loop to the most beautiful waters near Bad Marienberg. You can cycle uphill and downhill on the loop around the Knoten, which takes you past the Krombachtalsperre and the Mengerskirchener Seeweiher to the landscape near Rennerod. The last two Tours in this Collection are dedicated to two rivers. Over almost 100 kilometres (62 mi), you follow the Wied from its source near Linden to where it flows into the Rhine, passing ponds, forests and castles along the way. You can also divide the route into several stages, for more time to enjoy the highlights.

The almost 70-kilometre long (44 mi) Nister Cycle Route also runs the entire length of the Nister River, from its source near Willingen to its mouth near Wissen. Whichever Tour you choose, the Westerwald waters provide plenty of relaxation and epic cycling.

This short cycle path leads through the idyllic lake landscape at Dreifelden and is also easy to use with children. The center of the lake area is the Dreifelder Weiher, because with a length of two kilometers and a width of up to 800 meters this lake is the largest. Here you can swim and row or rent a pedal boat.

You have chosen a wonderful Tour with the 5-Lakes Cycle Route. But it is also a difficult one: you have to do a lot of uphill and downhill. You can of course also divide it into several stages, so that you have more time to enjoy the beauty of nature. After all, all five lakes need to be explored extensively.
