The Unstrut cycle path accompanies the Unstrut on its fascinating journey: From its source in Kefferhausen, the Unstrut meanders through picturesque countryside in beautiful nature reserves, past old monasteries and legendary castles. Idyllic towns such as Mühlhausen and Bad Langensalza lie on the river's way to Saxony-Anhalt, where it flows around lovely green hills and dreamy old vineyards before it flows into the Saale.

The Unstrut cycle path runs for about 200 kilometers (124 miles) in four stages from the source of the Unstrut near Kefferhausen in Thuringia to its mouth in the Saale near Naumburg in Saxony-Anhalt. Most of the time it goes downhill or it is mostly flat. I have put together a collection of rides alongside the Unstrut for you and divided the route into four stages of about 50 kilometers (31 miles) each. This way, you can ride each stage comfortable as part of a short holiday or over a long weekend.

The best way to reach the starting point of the Unstrut cycle path is by train, which will take you to Silberhausen. From there you can cycle to the source of the Unstrut, where the cycle path begins. To make it easy and convenient for you to find the starting point, I have included the route from the train station to the source in the first stage of this Collection. On the way along the route and at the finishes you have a wide range of accommodation options, including bike-friendly accommodation along the Unstrut cycle path. At the end of the ride in Naumburg, you will be connected to trains all over Germany and beyond, which will get you back home again after your adventure along the Unstrut.
