Corfu - this word is usually synonymous with picturesque beaches, turquoise water, warm summer evenings and, of course, gorgeous Greek cuisine. But if you want to experience even more of the greenest Greek island away from the hotel pool, then we've got just the thing. The mountainous island in the west of Greece has a lot to offer for hikers. And since most tourists only come to Corfu for a beach holiday, you can experience a wonderful seclusion on our hikes in the beautiful green mountains, along rocky coastlines and in the ever-present olive groves. Are you ready?

We have put together seven compact walks on Corfu that you can enjoy all year round - even on hot summer days. For longer hikes in the summer, it is best to start early in the morning, as this is the best way to avoid the midday heat. In addition, even the most frequented places are still lonely and quiet. If you go hiking on Corfu in spring, autumn or winter, you will not only find mild temperatures but also a wonderful peace and tranquillity. As far as equipment goes, we recommend going in regular running shoes, so you don't need to put hiking boots in your suitcase. And as it would be rude not to at least take one dip in the beautiful Mediterranean sea, we've planned beaches into several of the routes. These are also far away from the popular holiday resorts and are wonderfully lonely even in high season. Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate, Corfu is also perfect for a hiking holiday in spring and autumn.

To get to the starting points of the hikes, you won't be able to avoid a rental car. Public buses only go from town to town on Corfu and the sometimes adventurous mountain roads are a real challenge on a bike or moped. If you rent a car, however, or somehow drive here in your own, you can easily discover the most remote places of the Greek island for yourself.

At 917 meters, the Pantokrator is by far the highest mountain in Corfu. Most tourists drive only for a photo to the summit, but in addition to the beautiful views, there are also beautiful hiking trails around the mountain. Our tour takes you in a big round to the summit and over the plateau below the Pantokrator. In summer you …

The spectacularly shaped Cape Drastis is located on the already beautiful north coast of Corfu. The Cape itself is privately owned - and that's a good thing, because that's how the beautiful nature is preserved. On our round trip you have in different places a great view of the cape and the surrounding cliffs. In between, you wander on narrow farm roads through groves of huge olive trees. For this tour you need sturdy shoes and enough drinking water.

The small chapel Symeon is an absolute insider tip. It stands on a towering rock outcrop directly above the popular resort of Palaiokastritsa and offers a fantastic view over the southern half of Corfu and the massif of the Pantokrator. From the sleepy mountain village of Doukades our round trip leads you through peaceful olive groves to the view at the chapel. The path is sometimes rocky or overgrown and therefore you should wear solid shoes in any case.

The double bay of Porto Timoni on the peninsula Afionas is one of the most beautiful beaches in Corfu. Today, the two bays are not as much a secret as they were a few years ago, but if you come early in the morning or in the afternoon, you can still enjoy the narrow beaches. From the village of Afionas, …

In a lovely high valley, directly below the mountain Pantokrator, lies the abandoned mountain village Paleo Perithia. The village was built in the 14th century high up in the mountains to be protected from the two greatest dangers of the time: pirate attacks and summer malaria outbreaks. The village was then considered one of the wealthiest settlements in Corfu and …

You are looking for secluded nature and lonely beaches? Then you are exactly right at Cape Ekaterini, the northernmost point of Corfu. The cape consists of flat limestone cliffs that reach down into the water. Our round trip will take you from the popular beach Agios Spiridon around the cape. In between you will find an abandoned monastery, an unspoiled forest and two quiet beaches. For the rocky path at the Cape you should wear closed shoes.

Fortress Angelokastro looks back on a centuries-old history. According to archaeological discoveries made during the restoration work in the 1990s, the first fortifications on the mountain date back to the 7th century. Over the centuries, the claims to power changed over Corfu, until the 14th century began the long Venetian reign. During this time, the Venetians took over the fortress …
