Crossing a mountain range is a unique experience, a small challenge and an unforgettable adventure in nature. The Eifel makes this adventure tangible: In the west of Germany, between Aachen and Trier, the beautiful low mountain range awaits you, which has everything to offer that makes a great time on a mountain bike. Here you'll find wonderful untouched forests, idyllic lakes, unforgettable views of the wide countryside and of course action-packed trails. In this collection we show you how to cross the Eifel in six stages.

If you have doubts whether a mountain crossing is the right thing for you, or if you simply lack experience, then the Eifel is perfect for an example test. The Eifel is easily accessible and does not require such detailed planning as, for example, an Alpine crossing. The topography is moderate and the trails offer a great, not too extreme mixture, which is fun for Trans-newcomers, but also for experienced bikers. Nevertheless, it's a challenge to try your hand at the Eifel: almost 300 kilometers and around 5,500 meters of altitude difference are not without it. But you can control how much enjoyment and challenge there is in your Trans-Eifel: our six stages are just right for the average biker. If you are looking for a real challenge, just plan fewer stages and if it sounds too exhausting, take more time.

The Eifel is perfectly suited for eventful stage rides where comfort is not neglected. Despite its remoteness, the area is well-developed for tourism, so you'll find many down-to-earth hosts. All tours in this collection end in places with a good choice of accommodation: Whether camping, youth hostel or guesthouse/hotel - you decide for yourself how much comfort you enjoy away from your bike. As this is a "one-way tour", it is a good idea to arrive by train. There is a good train connection between the start (Düren) and the finish (Trier), so that you also have the possibility to come back to your car by train after the tour. Once you're on your way, wonderfully secluded trails and paths await you. That's great, of course, but also requires some preparation: Take enough provisions, some tools and spare parts and expect that there won't be a train to take you home on the way - and that you often don't even have mobile phone reception. That sounds like the perfect natural idyll? It is, we promise!

The first leg of your Trans-Eifel adventure begins in Düren, the gateway to the Eifel. If you want to save some of the more urban milestones, you can take the Rurtalbahn, for example, to Kreuzau, where you can immerse yourself in the wonderfully quiet nature. You'll get plenty of it in the course of this stage: You'll pass several beautiful …

This tour begins with a flowing ride through the unspoiled deciduous forest of Hasselbachgraben. When it rains, it is especially nice here, but also a bit slippery. So let's take it a bit easier. After a first long climb, a wide view opens up, on clear days you can look from here to the Rhenish lignite mining area. An information board tells you what you see. Get a little orientation with a short break.

On the fourth stage of our Trans-Eifel-Tour, you will often think in between times: "Peaceful is not really possible!" Fortunately, this is today - now have land and people found their peace here. But that was not always the case. This region, which is named Schneifel, has been plagued by wars time and again, and if you look closely, you can see silent witnesses of a turbulent past here and there.

From the start in Waxweiler the Prüm accompanies you for a long time, winding its way through the landscape in many loops, while you can plow the partly wooded banks of the river along small roads, paths and trails and enjoy wonderful views of the valley.

The sixth and final leg of your Trans-Eifel adventure is impressive in many ways. So waiting for just under 50 kilometers a whopping 1,200 vertical meters to be climbed by you. This is the constant change uphill and downhill. This is quite challenging, but totally varied and the beautiful nature and numerous highlights along the route also ensure an absolutely entertaining final stage through the Eifel.
