🇩🇰 INSEL Ærø

Yesterday the new electric ferry "Ellen" went to the Danish island of Ærø. Finally Denmark again!

For our first day today we have chosen three small hikes in the south-west of the island. the

Our second short hike takes us to the coastal path in the south-west of the island.

A narrow sand path along the Baltic Sea is lined with real rose hips and "itching powder". A part of the way we go directly on the beach, which is mostly stony and only occasionally sandy.

Our third short hike took us to the steep coast of Ærø.

The entire area around the 33 meter high cliff is a nature reserve. 🤩

The weather forecast was right for once; Rain 🌨 and drizzle with short dry spells.

The right thing for a short round of the house, which was not stingy on fruit.

Back in the holiday home there is a tea with "our" obligatory Danish marzipan cake while the sauna is running hot

Marstal was once the most important port of call for seafaring in Denmark. The Maritime Museum and the old shipyard are at home here. Of course there is also a small marina⛵ where the sailors of the Danish South Seas get new provisions🍌🥜 in summer.

Nothing 🚷 for broken backs! 😖

Hardly a holiday in Denmark without old graves. So today the gloomy passage grave of Kragnæs 🗿 and the old megalithic tombs and dolmens of Lindsbjerg 🗿 were on the program.

Thanks to rigorous monument protection for many houses, Ærøskøbing with its bumpy cobblestones, narrow alleys, climbing roses and old houses dating from the 18th century is rightly called a fairytale town

Today it was the turn of some "rag collectors" to use the time until the onset of rain🌧.

Anyone who claims that Denmark 🇩🇰 is a flat country does not know Ærø❗ Although it was only around 40 kilometers for us, legs and hips feel like trodden kilometers🥴

Once you have fought your way up the Ice Age mountains🥵, the magnificent views compensate for so many beads of sweat!

Even today it was high; the 22 meter high lighthouse 💡 was built in 1881 from light granite and is located in the far north of Ærø. You get to the top through a very narrow door via a very steep and narrow staircase.

The 360 ° view over the Baltic Sea🌊 and the South Funen Sea🏝 is fantastic ❣

At the end of our holiday😪 we let the last rays of sunshine act on us in the medieval🦴 Ærøskøbing.🤗

The Danish royal family spends a few summer weeks in Gråsten Slot every year. 📷

The neighboring forests were too inviting to head home straight away.
