Cycling is on the rise! More and more cyclists are daring to embark on long-distance routes and France boasts many regions that are perfect for such adventures. The Jura Mountains are a great example. But how do you decide on a route when there is so much choice?
If you are organising a bikepacking holiday in the Jura Mountains, you can embark on the Grande Traversée du Jura à VTT (261 miles / 420 km through the Jura Mountains), one of the two Tours du Jura à vélo (sport and leisure), the Grande Traversée du Jura à vélo (GTJ) or a section of EuroVelo 6, among others. We are talking about several thousand kilometres of cycle paths...
To be sure of your choice, the best thing to do is to try out bits and pieces of each route. This Collection of day rides is intended to give you a taste of various longer routes in the Jura Mountains. It is also an excellent way to get an overview of the region and its cycling possibilities. The smart choice not to choose!
Some of these routes are labelled "Vélo et Fromages", others offer you forays through vineyards or over green hills. Not only are the landscapes varied, but the sub-disciplines of cycling (mountain bike, gravel, touring bike...) are all well represented.
The cycling routes in this Collection are quite achievable for most cyclists. Some tours are round trips, so count on double the distance and elevation gain. Most start near railway stations, although for some you will need to either drive or adapt the route.
The Jura Mountains are a year-round delight for nature lovers. The best time for cyclists is spring to autumn when the snow has melted and the trails are clear. This is also when the vines show their best face, from the birth of the buds in April to the fall of the leaves in October.
All that's left to do is to choose from the long-distance routes in the Jura Mountains!
