Following ancient pilgrimage routes, the Appenzeller Weg traverses the cultural and scenic canton of Appenzell. Appenzellerland is renowned for its picturesque mountain villages, verdant alpine meadows and majestic peaks. 50 kilometres (31 mi) in length, the Appenzeller Weg offers an opportunity to explore this region via straightforward yet diverse paths.

This Collection divides the Appenzeller Weg into three stages. Your journey commences in Rankweil in Austria and crosses into Switzerland on the first day. You then follow peaceful paths through expansive alpine meadows and past charming villages such as Appenzell, Gonten and Urnäsch. The historic centres, with their traditional wooden houses and flower-adorned balconies, epitomise the distinctive charm of this region.

The hiking trails are gentle and easily managable even for hikers without alpine experience. Some basic fitness will help you up the climbs and along the distances. The stages range from 12 to 27 kilometres (7 to 16 mi) in length, with an average elevation gain of 460 metres (1,500 ft).

Both Rankweil in Austria and the final destination of the Appenzeller Weg, St. Peterzell in Switzerland, are easily accessible by public transport. Additionally, the other towns where stages commence or conclude are well-connected to the public transport network.
