The current five-arched stone bridge was probably built around the middle of the 17th century and built in the years 1805/07 at government expense as it is today. The bridge, built of coarse sandstone blocks, is a gem in the upper Altmühltal.
The lower city gate, which remained well preserved in its construction, shielded as a bastion with its guns, the Altmühlübergänge, especially the Altmühl bridge. Between the bridge and the lower gate ran a ditch that could be crossed with the lower drawbridge. Within the city gate was an iron portcullis, from which the guide troughs in stone are still visible.25 de octubre de 2019
