Lünersee

You can walk around the Lünersee in a marvelous way, with the family in 1.5 to 2 hours, once around or up to one of the surrounding peaks. Always in view the sparkling blue of the water, which he gets from an artificial glacier inlet.

Those who like to use climbing trails to climb to a summit, turn left off the mountain station of the Lünerseebahn along the dam wall and walk on the marked path to the Saulajoch.

The Lünersee is one of the largest lakes in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg in the municipality of Vandans.
It lies at an altitude of 1970 m above sea level. A. at the foot of the Schesaplana. In 1959 Vorarlberger Illwerke AG enlarged the storage volume of the lake with a dam; since then it has been using the water to generate electricity in the Lünersee plant. Through an artificial tunnel, the lake is fed by the meltwater of the Brandner glacier. The processed water of Lake Lüner is cached in the reservoir Latschau.
The net capacity of Lünersee amounts to 78.3 million m³ (water surface 1.55 km²). This corresponds to about 262 million kWh of stored energy. The water depth is well over 50 meters.
The area around the lake forms the valley end of the Brandnertal valley, which can only be reached via narrow paths or the Lünerseebahn from the Schattenlagant area. Directly at the mountain station at the dam is the Douglasshütte, which serves as a snack and overnight accommodation for hikers.

10 days ago, after the tour of Brand - Oberzalimhütte - Mannheimer Hütte - Schesaplana - Totalphütte in Lake Lünersee, we bathed. It was wonderfully refreshing.

We are with the children of the Golmer mountain railway (mountain station) to Heinrich Hueter hut, then over the Lünerkrinne, the Lünersee and the Alpe am Lünersee to Totalphütte. From there back to the lake and on to Lindauer Hütte. The "Swiss Gate" on the way offers a magnificent view of Switzerland. Beautiful and for our children 7 + 9 no problem.

In this circular walk it is still worth going to the Lünerkrinne. Nice view into the Rellstal and Zimbablick,

With the Lünerseebahn you can easily reach the Lünersee within a 5-minute cable car ride. Alternatively, you can also reach the Lünersee on foot via the "Evil Kick".

The ascent on this side of the lake is very steep, if you go halfway around the lake you come to a more beautiful path to Totalalphütte.

This route is highly recommended, in good weather my opinion would be the Mediterranean. Enzian even grows in some places. 👌👌😎😉

The Lünersee is an absolute must for anyone who loves or loves nature. Partly the water looks like the rocks on the shore as if you were on the Mediterranean. 😎👍

One of the largest and most beautiful mountain lakes in the Alps. Worth seeing in any weather!

The Lünersee is a reservoir which is filled with glacier water.

The Lünersee surprises and astonishes me again and again with its color! Everybody in Brandnertal has to go up here.

Only recommended in good weather because of the view. But there is a web cam at the Douglasshütte.
