Small lookout tower with interesting orientation marks on the railing, for example sunrise and sunset on the solstice days or direction and distance to Kehl, Strasbourg, Vienna or Lima. The view is stunning.

The Hornisgrindeturm gives many visitors the impression that it was the legacy of an old castle. The Hornisgrindegipfel with the beautiful observation tower and the equally beautiful "Grindenhotel" is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the whole region together with the Mummelsee.

The Hornisgrinde is the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest. The summit here is a fairly large flat plain on which there is a high moor in the southern part of the plateau. This can be crossed via a boardwalk. At the southern end, above the Mummelsee, is the Hornisgrindeturm. At the highest point of the mountain, in the middle of the summit level, there is another tower, the Bismarck Tower. In addition, there are now several wind turbines on the summit level. From the Hotel Mummelsee, which is located on the B 500, the summit level can be reached quickly and the view can be enjoyed.

Do the wind whistles properly above. If not there in summer, pack well.

Two towers were built on the Hornisgrinde, the Hornisgrinde and the Signal Tower, which are often confused:

In its current form, the 7 m high Bismarck Tower has stood on the highest point of the Hornisgrinde since 1871. The former signal tower stands directly on the boundary of the municipalities of Sasbach and Sasbachwalden.

The 23 m high Hornisgrinde tower was built in 1910 by the Badischer Schwarzwaldverein as a lookout tower at the southern end of the Hornisgrinde ridge.

Small lookout tower, which makes something a bit meager right next to the gigantic radio tower, but it is even longer there.

A small, cute turret from which you have a very nice overview of the raised bog.

At the highest point of the Hornisgrinde is the 7 m high, built in 1840 Bismarckturm. In 2000, it was renovated and made accessible by an external spiral staircase. Here you can enjoy wonderful far and wide views of the surrounding Black Forest mountains and the Rhine valley.

THE HISTORY OF THE HORNISGRINDE: PASTURE AREAS, MILITARY USE AND EXCURSION DESTINATION
"... Unique region full of legends and experiences ...
The name Hornisgrinde goes back in all likelihood to the components "Horn", "Miss" and "Grind", which means something like "rocky, bald head that supports a bog". ... "

The Hornisgrinde is the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest. And there's a lot to explore in the corner. E.g. the Mummelsee is not far away. Unfortunately there is a lot going on here.

Should rather be "above the fog". Is always particularly impressive when the Rhine Valley is a sea of fog.

The tower is not too high, but you have a wonderful view over the Rhine plain, the surrounding high moor and on the other side towards the Biberkessel.
There is always some wind up here.
