The comparisons range from Yosemite National Park to Lord of the Rings. Probably the Sababurg forest is somewhere in between. Along beautiful, mystical paths you will discover ancient oaks and beech trees, which also have a special appeal for photographers. Always worth seeing!

In earlier times, hat forests served as forest pastures for pigs and other domestic animals. Accordingly, these forests were quite light with a large number of hat trees, which can still be admired today as tree wonders, some of which are well over 500 years old. In the jungle, these are mostly old oaks or beeches, each of which is a natural monument in itself.
Anyone who plunges into this world of old fairytale forest giants is immediately transported back to the time when not walkers but cattle and shepherds dominated the picture. Incidentally, the density of preserved hat trees in the jungle is probably unique in Germany.
The primeval forest character arises primarily from the fact that the forest has been largely left to its own devices for a good 100 years. There are ‘tree ruins’ and dead wood lying around in considerable quantities, which gives the forest its primeval forest-like impression.
At the same time it is a habitat for all kinds of animals, fungi and plants. In addition to the impressive beeches and oaks, you can e.g. also discover the rare potted fern and wild apple trees. An impressive secondary forest is now also growing.

A dream for lovers of gnarled, bizarrely shaped and mighty trees. Most of them are old beeches and oaks that make beautiful photo motifs. For a particularly large number of impressive giant trees, the middle circular route (orange) is a must.

Just fantastic what this forest has for trees. So worthwhile that one would like to set up camp among them.

Here in the Sababurg primeval forest you can still find real giants. On winding paths you can always discover one or two giants along the way. Occasionally, a knight comes across.
A nice collection of old trees that you can hopefully look at for a long time!

If you drive past the Sababurg from Gottsbüren, you will find the Drecktor car park after approx. 2 km, the direct access to the Sababurg primeval forest.

The formation was apparently divided by a falling tree during the last storm. Is broken, but looks spectacular.

Surely the Sababurger jungle is not comparable to a jungle grown for centuries, but it offers its own charm. What makes him so special is probably the combination of his old hat tree with a wildly renewable forest of beech, hornbeam, birch, bracken and other domestic plants.

Ancient trees on former pastures in the shadow of a castle. Too bad that they can not tell stories. The term primeval forest is here however wrong chosen, since humans had significant influence on the origin of this forest.

A nice little tour in the midst of beautiful nature - sturdy shoes are required because the paths are sometimes criss-crossed by roots or you have to climb over a bent tree.
