“The Erpetal with its wide meadow landscape is one of the last remaining river valleys in Berlin.
The 32 km long legacy rises on the Barnim plateau near Werneuchen and flows into the Spree at Hirschgarten.
Although the Erpetal is built on at the edges, the river was developed as a receiving water for the sewage treatment plant and the groundwater was lowered by drinking water extraction, large parts of the original cultural landscape have been preserved, so that the Erpetal landscape protection area was designated in 1995.
Protected are the wet meadows, the old arms of the Erpe, the groves of moist locations and the suitability as a recreation area.
Animal species such as beaver, kingfisher, moor frog and the banded magnificent dragonfly live here.
