The cathedral is open all year round and is only open for visits during church services or other events. It was built according to the legend after 1125, when Stavanger was simultaneously made a bishopric. The church was built in the Anglo-Norman style, probably by English artisans. The patron saint of the church is St. Svithun, one of his arms is said to have been one of the original relics of the church. The church burned down in 1272 and then a new gothic-style choir was built. The pulpit and five epitaphs were carved by Andrew Smith in the 1650s. In the vestibule, the so-called armory (våpenhuset), there is a tapestry by Frida Hansen that shows Olav the saint. The stained glass was made by Victor Sparre in 1957. Source: visitnorway.com
