The peace monument on the European long-distance trail E8 is not only worth seeing in itself, but also one of the quietest places in the area of Bensheim. From the path over the painting you also have, framed by trees, one of the most beautiful views of the Rhine plain.

A very symbolic place! The Jerusalem Friedensmal is aligned to Jerusalem. The pilgrim looks into the Rhine valley to Worms, the "little Jerusalem".
And the E 8 meets the Friedensmal at the Stone of Encounter: The message should be to bring inner peace into the world in the encounter with others.

The Friedensmal on the European long-distance hiking trail E8 near Bensheim-Hochstädten was built by a private initiative between 2010 and 2015 as a culturally necessary response to the Holocaust memorial in Berlin. From a hill you can see the Rhine plain, where the Jewish “Jerusalem on the Rhine” once was. As a Friedensmal in German-Jewish relations, it shows a path to healing and new life in the awareness of past suffering. On the individual level it is about a way of inner healing of the person.

The tree of life in the Friedensmal, with its roots pointing towards Jerusalem, breaks through the “dark ring of violence” with eleven memorial stones as projection surfaces for an alienated and traumatized mind. The ring is also broken open from the outside over a bright and friendly surface; a dance floor, a meeting place. This stands for the dance of life and for growing together spiritually and emotionally in the encounter. The Friedensmal stands for the walk into one's own interior; where peace begins, where it is therefore most necessary.
