The Reichstag building has been the seat of the German Bundestag since 1990. On October 4, 1990, the first session of the all-German Parliament, consisting of the Bundestag and the Volkskammer, took place in the plenary hall. Almost three months later, the first constituent meeting of the All-German Bundestag took place in the Reichstag building. The vote on the future seat of government fell on June 20, 1991 in favor of Berlin.

The Reichstag building was built from 1884 to 1894 according to the plans of Paul Wallot. With the proclamation of the German Empire in 1871, Berlin became the capital of the Reich. The newly formed parliament now needed a seat of government. Wallot combined elements from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism to make his building appropriately representative and monumental.

The gable inscription "Dem Deutschen Volke", which is still preserved today, was added in 1916. After the war, the severely damaged Reichstag was not used for the time being. The dome had to be blown up in 1957 for static reasons. A first conversion began in 1957 by Paul Baumgarten. Baumgarten glazed the plenary hall and pushed back almost all the historic features of the building.

The Reichstag building as well as the not far away Brandenburg Gate belong to the "obligatory program" of a Berlin visit.

The Chancellery is located exactly opposite the Reichstag in Berlin is certainly worth a visit. One might, however, argue about whether the architecture is suitable here. The old architectural styles somehow last longer.
