The city of Miltenberg developed since the beginning of the 13th century in the protection of Mildenburg. The city prospered because the sandstone from the surrounding mountains was very much in demand among architects and could be easily shipped on the Main. The magnificent half-timbered buildings in the old town can tell you about it today. You can still visit a large part of the old city wall and its defense towers.

The central fountain in the market square used to be a simple water hole where the woman met for washing clothes and exchanging the daily gossip.
Since that time it was called "Schotterloch" and the name has remained with the locals until today.

First mentioned in documents in 1237, the city can look back on an eventful history. Viticulture, wine trade, shipping, fishing, wood and stone industry were the most important growth engines in addition to trade and crafts. The convenient location on the old trade route Nuremberg-Frankfurt and the stacking law gave Miltenberg early economic prosperity. In the early 19th century, however, the city lost its central location in the spa state of Mainz and was from then on the edge of the Kingdom of Bavaria. The big phases of urban development were over and so the medieval cityscape could be preserved until today.

The historic market square is for me the highlight of Miltenberg.
Here at Brunne, the Schnatterloch, the opening scene and the final sequence of the classic: The Tavern in Spessart were filmed.
Dear audience ... a small donation for me and my animals?
I'll tell you the story, from the beautiful Spessartwald
