In the museum in the former Benedictine monastery Memleben, which was founded around the 10th century, you can get a small impression of the life of the Benedictine monks. Already in the 16th century, the monastery was dissolved and was repeatedly reused, mostly for agricultural purposes.Maintained are large parts of the monumental church from the 10th century and especially the late Romanesque crypt from the 13th century, the only room of the monastery, which is preserved in its original state. Since 2011, monks have been living in Memleben Monastery for a while as part of the "Animated Monastery" program. For hikers and other visitors there is the opportunity to stop off with small food and drinks, an audio guide is included in the entrance (about 7 EUR for adults, as of 2019).

The origins of the Palatinate and the beginning of the construction of the monastery date back to the 10th century. In 1551, the monastery was dissolved, and given by the Saxon Elector of the State School Pforta. In 1722 a lightning destroyed the monastery church roof, so strong that years later it began to break the church. Today it is a museum with ruined monastery ruins, cloister garden and crypt, as well as some outbuildings. Really worth seeing.
