If you have experienced Rømø in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, you certainly remember the beach as the widest motorway in Denmark, with parking permit so close to the sea, that the waves often splashed to the wheels. But it is not like that anymore. Rømø grows every year about 2 meters to the west, and it forms a new row of dunes on the beach. Therefore, almost the entire coast is car-free beach. At Lakolk beach there are still 2 km of coast, where everything is almost like in ancient times and you can park close to the water. Here, kites are let rise, sand castles are built, ball played and the wind ensures shattered hair. If you want to watch windsurfers, you will find them at the northernmost part of Lakolk beach. If dogs are allowed to walk freely, this is allowed in the dune area between the beach and the campsite.

From the mainland of Denmark via a large 2-lane dam, you can reach the island of Rømø by car. On the island straight ahead over a crossroads and (free) directly further to the water of the North Sea drive! A dream!
A very extensive beach, after all, the widest in Europe. Worthwhile long beach walks!
