The Schee tunnel heralds the eastern end of the northern railway line. During the winter, it is closed at night to protect the bats. In the summer it is a nice cooling off. Despite the lighting of the tunnels you should definitely have light on the bike on the Nordbahntrasse, because especially in summer it can happen that our friend and helper makes checks and imposes fines if the light is missing.

Nice cooling in hot weather, sometimes you catch a drop of cold water.
One tube for people, the other for bats.
The Schee tunnel connects the northern railway line with the coal railway line.

The approximately 700 m long Scheetunnel on the former railway line Hattingen-Wichlinghausen connects Wuppertal with Sprockhövel. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahnstrecke_Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen%E2%80%93Hattingen

In low traffic, just stop and listen to the tunnel.

A special experience through the tunnel from Westphalia to the Rhineland. Because in the middle of the tunnel runs the border

Look in the middle of the tunnel for the marking of the border between Wuppertal and Sprockhövel

Nice to see what has been made of it. Next door the bats quarters. In the summer a nice cool. I recommend a light jacket if you are not traveling so fast because the tunnel is really cool.
Especially on the way back, you should turn your gaze to the right wall. In the middle of the tunnel is illuminated in one place and it is the way to the bright side. (bright <-> bright) If you pay close attention, you can not see the end of the tunnel after Wuppertal.

The tunnel was like a stalactite cave, everywhere it dripped from the ceiling. Stop and enjoy the sound!

The tunnel is a real highlight in the region. Always cool, wet - just a real refreshment. At the same time it is the city boundary of Wuppertal and Sprockhövel. You can see that in the tunnel as well, the place is illuminated.
I especially like the section in front of the tunnel on the Wuppertal side. There you are accompanied by two streams in the direction of the tunnel. That's really nice.

The Schee Tunnel with its 722m is the longest tunnel of the northern railway line and the one with the perfect cooling temperature. The tunnel is quite humid and the water is discharged laterally. The passage is always nice. Due to the curvature you can not see beginning / end when you are in the tunnel. Attention light !!!
