The heat has arrived in Arizona. In the next few days, the thermometer should climb over 30 degrees. Armed with my silver umbrella, I enjoy the section along the Gila River, which resembles a western backdrop. Majestic saguaro cacti and old railway bridges decorate the landscape. The sun is beating down from the sky.The three of us left Kearny and we are all suffering equally from the heat. Along the way there is only one access to the Gila River, which flows neatly, but looks like coffee with milk due to the turbulent sediments. Our water filters always have to be briefly flushed back, they clog quickly. After we have all taken a refreshing swim in the river, we head up into the mountains. We pitch our tents at the foot of a towering rock that is secretly dedicated to the creator of the Arizona Trail - Dale Shewalter. Us, that's just Ranger, an elderly hiker from Colorado, and me. LarryBoy is already over the mountains.
