Last year the traditional Duisburg bike tour took place in a "Corona version" (komoot.de/tour/253097249), this year again as usual: With a bicycle market in Duisburg city center, two routes, several refreshment points and (as almost always) wonderful weather. The 38th cycle tour led from Duisburg to the east, through the city forest and through Mülheim to Essen to Margarethenhöhe. From there it went via Haarzopf to the Ruhr, again through Mülheim to Duisburg-Bissingheim, then back along the regatta course and along the MSV Arena. A successful mixture of city and green - Stadtsportbund and ADFC have once again organized a very nice route. All Duisburg bike tours since 2014 can be found here: komoot.de/collection/1072469

I used a visit to my parents for a trip from the old village of Unterpfaffenhofen to the Parsberg. I played at the "Keltenschanze" in childhood and adolescence or rode my bike. And there were many celebrations at the lake 😊

The forests near Hugenpoet and Landsberg, the Ratinger Stadtwald am Hülsenberg as well as Heltorfer Mark and Grindsmark are idyllic and varied between the Ruhr and Rhine. And of course it's nice in the floodplains too :-)

Some sections lead directly along the Ems, otherwise you will meet them again and again at bridges and weirs. The sections in between through fields and forests are also very beautiful, as are the historic houses in Marienfeld, Warendorf and Telgte. Two more tips:
      - The golf course in Marienfeld is a dead end: I got there, but the gate to the exit was locked. It was already like that at the entrance, but I wanted to make sure for myself 🙃
      - The historic post route between one and Telgte is beautiful, but very sandy and therefore difficult to drive. If you want to avoid that, just follow the official signs for the Ems cycle path.

The tour leads from Paderborn first into the Senne. Find out about the closing times of the practice area before you take the tour, e.g. here: gemeinde-schlangen.de/gemeinde/aktuelles/senne-sperrzeiten.phpWe continued from the source of the Ems along the river - sometimes more, sometimes less close - to Rheda. I really liked the Steinhorster basin and the towns of Rietberg and Wiedenbrück on the way.You can find more tours on the Ems here: komoot.de/collection/1120847

On our tour we visited a number of Münster's sights, with an extensive stay in the really impressive Botanical Garden. The culinary highlight was the beer tasting at Pinkus Müller, from Alt to Extra and Jubilate to Bock.

Around the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building are the workplaces of the German Bundestag, government buildings, embassies, several memorial sites and the House of World Cultures. It's all embedded in parks and right next to it flows the Spree - super interesting, varied and very pretty.

In the center of Berlin, old and new buildings as well as culture, commerce and (traces of) communism are close together. With several breaks due to the heat, we hiked a good part of this variety. The highlight of the tour is the viewing terrace of the Park Inn am Alex: From the 39th floor at a height of 120 m, we enjoyed the view of the sights in the center with an espresso.

The East Side Gallery is a unique reminder of the division of Berlin. It is worth visiting the entire length of approx. 1.3 km. In 2009 the pictures were renovated (so they are no longer the originals that were made shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall).Afterwards we strengthened ourselves in the Holzmarkt with delicious Gambian Domada, in order to then hike further along the Spree and back and forth across the Spree to the Museum Island.

The tour mostly leads through fields and forests along the edge of the Emsauen, rarely directly to the Ems. From lookout points you can always have beautiful views of the Emswiesen. The cities of Greven, Emsdetten and Rheine interrupt the greenery with a little architecture and art 😊
