After we really pedaled for five days and hadn't really seen anything of Vienna, we had to take a "walk" through Vienna on the last day of our Danube bike trip. For once, I'll be brief, because tomorrow there is a long journey back by train and car and the last few days have not left us without a trace:
Great city, an incredible number of sights and we'll be back again.
But then it will go through Vienna by bike, because today we both had to find out that the walk of a little over 10 km was more strenuous than the 539 km we had previously covered by bike :-).

I had another snap idea. When I edited the last tour, I realized that we weren't far from another European capital. Bratislava and Slovakia didn't say anything to me at the time. So why improve upon this non-existent knowledge? Why not drive around 140 km further from Vienna to Slovakia?Of course there was a lot that spoke against it ... we had just covered 400 km together in the last few days, for me it had been a total of 1,666 km since the first day of the City Cycling Challenge, we had hardly seen anything or anything from Vienna, ... but it just sounded crazy good :-).Read on under:

Day 4 of our Danube Cycle Path bike tour and also the last day of the Willich / Kreis Viersener Stadtradeln Challenge. And the status before the last Challenge day was extremely gratifying. We were actually able to roll out comfortably, because in the last two days we had almost 80 km per capita on the runner-up in the Viersen district (the yellow ones) and were now 100 km per capita. In other words: The yellow ones (with 5 cyclists) had to cycle at least 500 km together today just to catch up with us. And since Christian and I still had a little over 80 km to Vienna today and Armin had planned a nearly 140 km tour with Johannes, the winner of the challenge was already clear before that day :-): the Biking4Burgers.Who would have thought? Not even in the first week, because we had interpreted the whole thing as cozy fun for us. The sporty character and an extremely pronounced ambition only emerged in week two, when we tasted blood with 2nd place in the Viersen district and 1st place in the city of Willich. That had to be celebrated in the evening and what could be better than ending the challenge with a finish in Vienna? :-) ... but let's start with the actual tour description. In our hotel Unter den Linden there was a cozy and plentiful breakfast.Read on under:

Oh hammer; what a brilliant day that was again. Full of fun, full of kilometers and fed up with stomachs :-). But let's start from the beginning.Departure in Linz from the Star Inn at 7:00 a.m. and Christian was not amused that he was supposedly still in the shower while I was already cycling :-).140 km were on today. After the 140 km from yesterday, it was already a house number for us and we took it easy for our circumstances with an average of 20-21 km / h. And had plenty of time for various silliness :-).Read on under:

The view from the hotel window of the mk Hotel in Passau was surprising to both of us: it was raining. Not that we weren't prepared for it, but when we checked four weather apps the night before, there was nothing to suggest it. So quickly put on your rain gear in the room, packed your bike and out. And then the rain had almost completely passed us by :-). But no matter, now we had our rain gear on and drove out of Passau first.106 km were on the agenda with a total of three ferry trips. And the wheels ran like clockwork. The cycle path (we drove on the northern side of the Danube cycle path) was almost consistently perfect. And we were also lucky with two of the three ferry trips and were able to go up and straight away. And otherwise the way was great because it was completely cleared. Apart from the modest weather (mostly cloudy, a bit fresh and sometimes good headwind) we didn't understand why this was the case.Today was not only day two of our bike tour, but also the third to last day of the Willich / Kreis Viersen city bike challenge. Since we (especially Christian and I, among other things due to the long journey to Passau) - the Biking4Burgers - had weakened at the weekend, the "yellows" had come up to us with driven km per head of up to 20km. So today it was a question of not messing up. And we have plenty of that. Among other things, Armin drove almost 150 km and Christian and I put a 33 km evening lap around Linz on top of the 106 route. So we consolidated our first position on the penultimate day and are very optimistic about tomorrow.Read on under:

Day one of our first bike trip together with Christian and me was all about the journey. The meeting point was already at 6:30 a.m. in Willich, because initially we had to drive 700 km by car to Passau.Despite what felt like more than 20 construction sites, we made it through great and despite three short breaks we were already in front of our hotel at 3:30 p.m.: the mk Hotel Passau. A very nice hotel; located directly at the main train station in Passau.Read on under:

The lap yesterday turned out to be a little longer than originally planned, but according to our Biking4Burgers group it brought in a good number of kilometers in the Willich / Kreis Viersen city bike challenge. We are still ahead in the last week :-).ebiking4fun.de/stadtradeln-willich-kreis-viersen-2021

I'll just chat a little from the sewing box ... before this short afternoon round, I was already out and about with Armin and Johannes in the morning. Together we traveled a little over 100 km and are now very curious to see whether our worst competitor - The Yellows - were as active today as we were in the City Cycling Challenge or whether we just caught up with them at the end of the day (we are currently 150 km ahead) .At least we caught up and presented very well :-).I had set myself a second challenge for the weekend. In fact, I wanted to overtake Armin in our group-internal ranking in first place.A quick look back at yesterday: I had to make up 260 km for this and that of course in addition to the 100 km we were on the road together today. So the bar was huge, but yesterday I laid the foundation with a 205 km lap, this morning before our meeting point at 8:00 a.m. I made another 20 km and now I just overtook him with this lap :-).It won't last long (Armin is the only one from our Biking4Burger group who can enjoy life as a pensioner), but it's still a great feeling :-)This is how a really blatant cycling weekend ends for me with a total of 366 km over 2 days :-).But honestly between us: I am happy if this challenge takes place on September 22nd. and so the very, very intensive kilometer collecting is over.PS: there will be a video for the morning round and the tour here too. However, it will be another 1-2 weeks before I have finished the video.

Day 10 of the Willich or Viersener Stadtradeln Challenge: The starting situation in the morning was modest. Due to two pretty lazy days beforehand, we were in fourth place. The yellow ones - with one more cyclist than us - had not only caught up with each other, but also gained a good gap with 324 km.My motivation was low, but when I read at breakfast that Christian had been on the road for a long time and had firmly planned to drive 160 km for himself, I didn't want to back off. But what to do I actually wanted to go to the hairdresser and go shopping beforehand? The solution was of course obvious: combine both ... cycling and shopping. So it happened that in the morning I was doing a cozy little lap of 40 km through Mönchengladbach when the sun came out unexpectedly. I wasn't prepared for that. So spontaneously home again, put on some lotion, put on shorts and straight back on the bike. But where? I didn't really have a plan there either and thought about driving in the direction of Venlo. I drove and drove and drove and when I had covered around 110 km, the ambition grabbed me for the first time that day.I wrote to Christian briefly, who confirmed that he would be able to do the 160 km. That would reduce the gap to the yellow ones if they didn't cycle themselves :-) ... plus my 110 km ... ok, but I was still a long way from home. So let's see what we can still get out of there. In the meantime I had been driving up and down a bit in Venlo when I was really ambitious. Why not continue along the Maas to Roermond and from there back to Willich? There was actually nothing to be said for that ... I would definitely get wet and it would be a long, very long tour and the next day it was planned to meet the guys at 8:00 a.m. and do a 100 km lap .But didn't think about it for long and we went on. After driving 150 kilometers, my ambition could hardly be increased. Why not crack the 200 km "sound" limit a second time this year? It had rained heavily twice; so that no longer spoke against it :-) And the time factor? It was before 6:00 p.m. So why notAs you can see from the strange course of the route, at some point I didn't even know where to go. Only one thing was important to me: Reach the 200 km limit quickly and then eat something delicious at home, because lunch was somehow canceled due to lack of time :-).So I drove all over the place and when I ran out of ideas where I could go, it slowly got dark and I got wet for the fourth time, I drove around my Willich district of Anrath twice, until the 200 km finally were on the clock and at 8:30 p.m. I treated myself to a delicious cold non-alcoholic beer.Of course, as it was bound to happen, the yellow ones hadn't been idle either. But we had reduced the distance to at least 200 km and in our team classification I was up to 60 km from Armin. Will I still do this 60km well today (Sunday)? I do not know yet. I only know that we will drive around 100 km together. And then another 60 km on top and that after a trip over 200? I really don't know yet. But let's see if I'm so ambitious again today :-)
