After having been on two legs rather than two wheels for the past few weeks, I was on my bike again before work today. Compared to Everesting, every tour will probably seem short to me for the rest of my life and not worth mentioning the vertical meters, but it was fun as well! And after all, the enduro is about the downhill and not the altitude difference ;-)The Hexentrail (also known as Hörbchen / Hörbi / Luise / Luisentrail) is the latest legally created trail of the mountain bike club in Freiburg and is just a lot of fun! No one else is flowing, fast and in the morning. We had a lot of fun! :)

I had the idea over a year ago. Hike up to our local mountain Schauinsland until I have reached the equivalent height of Mount Everest. For over a year, I've only told a handful of people about this crazy idea. I was too unsure whether people should drive me crazy and whether I could even do that myself. This year I didn't want to wait any longer, I wanted to do it. I made an appointment two months ago and invited all my friends - either for the complete tour or for individual climbs. You have to climb the Schauinsland 12 times without sleeping in between. During the day you take the gondola downhill, at night I organized friends to take a car to shuttle. My thanks go to everyone for their great help and for sharing the excitement! My two friends Jule and Nora thought the idea was so cool that they wanted to participate completely. My mom and another friend each climbed 3 times with us.It was hard. After about 2 climbs, the first ailments begin, after 6 climbs there are more. Previous pain disappears, new pain forms. It's a huge challenge mentally. Every climb is different. Knowing how much was left was really not easy. But we did it! We only went uphill in almost 18 hours in 26 hours and made it between 9,000 and 10,000 meters in altitude (depending on the device and app with which we recorded). Komoot is the most conservative here when it comes to altitude, realistically it was more than 9400 meters. As far as the route is concerned, it was not 127km, but rather around 80km. So it might be. The fact is: we did an Everest Challenge on Schauinsland, which is more than I ever thought possible. My biggest tour to date had only 1600 meters in altitude. Over 9,000 meters of altitude is another world that I have to understand first.

Today we got up at 3 a.m. and drove from Zurich to the canton of Schwyz. Here we wanted to climb the Druisberg. It started in pitch dark night - and really steep. The path led in serpentines over steep steps up the mountain, at some point chains were added to the rock face and finally even a 10m high ladder that led vertically up the rock face. And all in the cone of our headlamps. Adventurous! That's exactly how I love it :)When it dawned, the steepest part was over and we walked more comfortably across alpine meadows until they then led to rocks and scree fields. There the sun rose and shone everything in a golden morning light. The final climb to the summit was over a snow field and a steep slope and then we stood up - and realized that we had landed on the wrong summit! If we actually wanted to climb the Druisberg, we ended up on the secondary summit, the Forstberg. We were wrong somewhere ...Well, however. The view was probably the same and extremely beautiful! The descent was over a grassy ridge and some rock passages, in which chains were attached to hold on.When we arrived at the Druisberghütte at 9:15 a.m., we treated ourselves to an apple spritzer and said "good morning" to the first hikers to start the ascent after us today. Well, they still had quite a bit of altitude ahead of them! When we got back to the car at 10 a.m., we were tired but happy. And still had the whole day ahead of us!

A big surprise: I was once again on the Schauinsland ;-) This time I was traveling a bit faster, because I had to catch the last descent at 5 p.m. I don't like to run down ... It was hot, but as always great! And if you really sweat, you know that you did something ;-)

Dear hiking friends,
After the great success of a relay hike in May in cooperation with the community management of komoot and the successful 'export' of the concept to Munich, Cologne / Düsseldorf and Thuringia, it is now time to issue this hiking experiment in the Black Forest area.
In view of the still restricting external circumstances, the aim is once again to strengthen the cohesion of the community and to set up a joint virtual tour. The principle is as follows: At the start I hike a tour from A to B, one of you then hikes from B to C, the next person from C to D etc.
Finally, I take over the 'baton' again and add a last stage to close the topic sheet.
I hope that we can manage a tour as a 'virtual hiking group' every day until July. This event should be about participants from the Freiburg area, of course you can also travel to contribute a stage.
Which route you hike and how long it is entirely up to you, you just have to take your own starting point from the end point of your respective predecessor. It is definitely not a question of 'higher-faster-further' and measuring your strength, but that each participant is actually part of the matter and makes his or her individual contribution to the overall result.
The following rules apply:
- for sure this is a 'fun event', please go about it with the necessary seriousness and think in terms of community
- Your stage should be at least three kilometers long, there is no limit to the top, but please do not overdo it
- please only contribute A-to-B stages, no round trips
- You are also welcome to compete in teams of two, please talk to each other about this. If there are several participants per stage, the existing contact restrictions apply, of which you are responsible for compliance
- The destination of your stage should be easily accessible by local or regional public transport. This helps you as well as the person who has to continue at the point.
- After completing your stage, please put it online at komoot as soon as possible, so that the following person has enough time to plan your own stage. You can then edit images, etc. If it is not possible to put your tour online before 8 p.m., please inform the following participant or me in good time about your destination on the go.
If you are interested in this campaign, please register there. You only enter the name under which you are active at komoot, I do not need any further data. Pick your desired day and send the form. The following applies: first come, first served and free choice. Please only grab a free 'slot' if you actually intend to hike your stage that day.
I will start on June 25th. starting in Freiburg, you can then from 26.06. until July 5th continue.
If you should not be able to meet your set date, send me a message in Komoot so that I can share the day with other interested parties. If necessary, I will step in in the event of short-term failures so that the chain does not break.
I'm looking forward to your feedback again and hope that numerous participants will be there. I sent an invitation to some of you who I follow and who are hiking in the Freiburg area to this virtual event. I ask the participants of the first season to let new participants take the lead. If starting positions remain free, I will also send targeted invitations to the participants of the first season. As always, feel free to share your opinion here in the comments. To register via Doodle:

And a third variant from the valley station to the mountain station of the Schauinsland. Today I followed the yellow route to the left of the gondola - a super nice way, mostly on natural narrow paths. Most of the time the slope is relatively moderate and you can hike quite quickly. In a few places, however, the way is tough and it is quite steep. This route offers relatively few prospects, but you will be rewarded with great forest and a magnificent panoramic view of the tower.
If you want to enjoy a distant view in between, you should choose my variant 1 on the Schauinsland and follow the yellow diamond on the right, and then half the blue diamond. In addition, it was my turn this morning and the Schauinsland cable car only starts at 9 a.m. So I made a detour to the Schauinsland tower, the look was terrific :)
