In the meantime we drove further north to the state of Vermont. In the very south of Vermont is the city of Bennington with the Battle Monument. The Bennington Battle Monument is a 306 foot high stone obelisk located at 15 Monument Circle in Bennington, Vermont, USA. The memorial commemorates the Battle of Bennington during the American Revolutionary War in 1777. The Hessian soldiers were sold to the British Crown by their father (Regiment Hessen-Hanau). 2,422 Hessian soldiers were sold, 1,441 Hessian soldiers returned, for which the Count of Hesse Hanau received around 340,000 pounds sterling.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hesse-Hanau_Troops_in_the_American_Revolutionary_Waren.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brunswick_Troops_in_the_American_Revolutionary_War

The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, also known as The Clark for short, is an art museum with an affiliated research institute for art history in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Together with the neighboring Williams College, it also offers a two-year graduate course for art historians.
The important art collection of the Clark Art Institute includes works from the 14th to the beginning of the 20th century, with a focus on paintings by the French Impressionists. Source Wikipedia.I was particularly impressed by the countless pictures by the French impressionists 'Auguste Renoir' and 'Claude Monet' in this museum. Many sculptures by 'Auguste Rodin' can also be seen. This is really crazy: This is now the third outstanding art museum in the wooded west of Massachusetts (The Berkshires). The theater scene is also surprisingly strong here in the province. We really didn't expect that when we planned to go to the Berkshire Mountains.de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sterling_and_Francine_Clark_Art_Institute

The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art is a museum in a converted Arnold Print Works factory complex in North Adams, Massachusetts. It is one of the largest centers for contemporary visual arts and performing arts in the United States. Source Wikipedia (English)It is a very innovative exhibition of contemporary art with international, including German artists. The old factory grounds with the individual factory buildings alone are worth seeing.
At the moment there is a special exhibition on contemporary ceramic art.The reference to this really great museum came from @ Udo von der Kaiserpfalz !!!!
A thousand thanks @Udo for this really interesting tip !!!!! We would have really missed something if we hadn't looked at this entire ensemble of ultra-modern works of art and the old factory site !!en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts_Museum_of_Contemporary_Artmassmoca.org

I wanted to walk a bit on the Appalachian Trail once in my life, the long-distance hiking trail that stretches 3500 km in the eastern United States from north to south!
With this tour my wish came true!We wanted to choose an easy entry that wasn't too high. But here, too, things went uphill again. We were rewarded with a wonderful view from the mountain 'The Cobbles'.
On the way we had a very stimulating conversation with a young hiker who has been on the Appalachian Trail since July this year.
For them, bears are like big dogs that you just have to chase away, a really tough statement!
The west of Massachusetts, where we're traveling, is bear sanctuary, and the population has increased dramatically in recent years. Since there are often bears in the uplands in the USA, we always take our precautions. In order to get a circular hike on this tour, we have chosen a signposted path, which could not be found on any map. In the end we therefore had to run cross-country on a quiet street, but were rewarded with a waterfall or 'Cascades'.

Norman Rockwell (born February 3, 1894 in New York - † November 8, 1978 in Stockbridge, Massachusetts) was an American painter and illustrator of the early 20th century. For more than 40 years he created a total of 322 covers for the Saturday Evening Post, which made him very popular. Rockwell's work is considered both American patriotic and commercial ... Either way, Rockwell is one of the most influential and well-known artists in US history (Wikipedia)
Rockwell very often depicted the supposedly ideal world of the USA, but very profoundly and profoundly.
In his later life he devoted himself strongly to political and socially critical issues.
The 'Four Freedoms' declared by Franklin D. Roosevelt, which led to the founding of the 'United Nations', he portrayed in pictures. He also painted pictures showing the abolition of racial segregation from 1963 onwards. After the museum, there was a short tour of Norman Rockwell's studio and the Housatonic River.

Mount Greylock in the Mount Greylock State Reservation is the highest point in the state of Massachusetts at 1067 m.
From the summit you have a grandiose foresight, especially towards the east. Here you can see up to 90 miles, provided the weather is good. However, the summit is often shrouded in fog.
It also took us several days to get a clear view from the summit. However, we could only enjoy it for a short time. Within 20 minutes the whole summit was shrouded in fog.
The access road to the summit will therefore be closed from mid / late October due to bad weather.
The drive to the top is definitely worth it in good weather, as the view is really breathtaking. The Appalachian Trail, the 3,500 km long long-distance hiking trail in the USA, which stretches from north to south in the east of the USA, goes over the summit of Mount Greylock and over the mountain range 'Bershire Mountains'.
