In the afternoon I started a fast lap in the Euloer Bruch today. To the west of the Malxe begins the NSG "Euloer Bruch", which was first placed under protection in 1936, with the pond area on one side and the Bruch on the other.
The Euloer Teiche are a habitat for endangered animal species such as fire-bellied toad, tree frog, moor duck or bittern.
Even if the cold wind 🌬 lasted the whole tour, the setting sun 🌅 made up for it.

The chocolate side of Lusatia... that's how the Confiserie Felicitas, based in Hornow, advertises on its website. The demonstration workshop in the Hornow factory outlet gives an insight into the craft of the chocolatiers. After a few strong lunges in the shop 🍫🍬 I used the warming rays of the sun ☀️ for a round in Hornow. Past the former manor house that was converted into a castle in 1864, we went to St. Martin's Church, which was built from field stones in the 13th century. Next to the church is an old bakery, which was restored in 2001 and is fired up for bread and cakes at festivals. The mausoleum of the former landowners is also on the site, as is the mighty pedunculate oak, which is estimated to be 700 - 800 years old.
An interesting walk in the 400-strong village. 😊

Spremberg/Grodk is located in the green valley of the Spree and has a history of more than seven hundred years, which the Kreuzkirche and the castle testify to, among other things.
The latter, whose origins go back to a water and swamp castle from the 11th century, was the starting point of my tour today.
Passing the swan pond we continued to the city park.
In addition to the Bismarck Tower, which was completed in April 1903 and is the city's landmark, there are several memorials here.
After a short section of the Spree, we continued towards the city center, which was built on an alluvial sand island.
In the center of the island is the Kreuzkirche.
Due to several city fires, there are only very few records of the building history. The oldest part of the Kreuzkirche is the lower part of the tower with its 2.60 meter thick walls from the 13th century.
Northwest of the Kreuzkirche in Burgstraße is the oldest residential building in the city of Spremberg. In common parlance, this house is referred to as the "Sonntagssches Haus" after its last resident, Ms. Sonntag. It is a simple half-timbered building that was erected before the great city fire in 1705 and remained intact. Finally, we went back to the castle along the Spree. On the way I stopped briefly at the former post office. In 1883 the ceremonial inauguration of the Imperial Post Office took place here. Due to urgently needed repairs in 2017, the post office finally moved out with the termination of the tenancy.

For today's tour we started at the parking lot at Steinitzhof in the direction of the Seinitzer stairs.
101 steps have to be mastered before you reach the viewing platform of the almost 30 meter high steel staircase. It is meant to be reminiscent of an outrigger of a large opencast mining machine. We opted out of the ascent, in bright sunshine it would have been more worthwhile.
We continued through the Steinitzer Alps to the Wolkenberg vantage point, which is located on the edge of the Welzow-Süd opencast mine on a recultivated area. On the highest point of the cloud mountain there is a shelter with a view of the post-mining landscape and the vineyard. 26,000 vines were planted on the southern slope of the Wolkenberg, where the village of Wolkenberg once stood. At the foot of the Wolkenberg is the memorial for the former village, which had to make way for opencast mining in 1991.Straussdorf, among others, also had to give way: A memorial stone on the site of the former location commemorates the village that was evacuated in 1988.Again and again we cross the ornithological nature trail that begins in the Spremberg district of Pulsberg.
Not only hunting bird species such as white-tailed eagles or
Red kites can be observed on the specially designed educational trail. The 15-kilometer trail leads through different development stages of the Welzow post-mining landscape. Eight stations provide information about the often rare bird species that have discovered new habitats here. There are a total of 200 species records for the area. About a third of the 90 breeding bird species are part of the red list of breeding birds in Brandenburg.
Our route continues via the old mining area to Lake Görigker. The old mining area shows the broken fields caused by the collapse of former lignite mining tunnels at the end of the 19th century as well as the striking old “broken oaks” in one of these fields.
Arriving back in Steinitz, there was a short stop at the old field stone church, which is currently scaffolded and waiting for the end of its renovation, and at the Steinitzhof.

Today I had the opportunity to take a spontaneous walk in the listed Branitzer Park. Hermann Fürst von Pückler had this masterpiece of garden art laid out between 1846 and 1871. The park was completed by 1888 after Pückler's death.
Winding paths, spacious areas and artificial lakes characterize the park. There are also two pyramids in the park, of which the sea pyramid is the prince's grave.
The park itself is open all year round, the castle and visitor center with changing exhibitions in the summer season from 01.04. until October 31

For today's tour, I started from the parking lot at the Mausmühle, the recording unfortunately only 2km later.
For example, a section is missing, which I would not consider recommendable. Komoot's proposal ran through very rough terrain and a private path, the gate of which fortunately was not locked.
I left the location of Maus in the direction of Maiberg, past the Lasszinswiesen, some of which belong to the FFH area and the Peitzer Teiche nature reserve. This open and hardly cut up wet landscape, mainly used as meadow and pasture, is drained via an extensive ditch system. The two largest, the Schwarze Graben and the Teichgraben, flow into the Hammergraben, the course of which I followed for a short distance from Maiberg, before I turned off in the direction of Drehnow in order to follow the Malxe upstream again. Before I wanted to leave the hiking trail in the direction of the Garkoschke bathing lake, I decided to make a short detour to the Turnower Holländermühle.
The history of the mill goes back to the middle of the 19th century. After two wooden mills had already burned down on the Galgenberg, a mill master from Peitz had a massive Dutch windmill built in 1858, which was expanded to include a sawmill in 1870. After changing owners, Ernst and Pauline Dubrau acquired the mill in 1894 and founded the "miller dynasty", which is still located here today.
After a tour of the site and a short break for refreshments in the sheltered mill hut, I continued the tour in the direction of the Garkoschke recreation area, a large sand dune. Immediately after the last ice age, sands from the area of today's Lieberoser Heide were blown in and deposited here. In the course of the construction of the Jänschwalde power plant, a new building area was created in Peitz in the 1970s, for which significant quantities of sand were required. The sand was taken from this dune area, and an idyllic swimming lake was created from the extraction point. In the meantime, vegetation has settled on most of the bank areas, so that the lake now looks like a natural body of water.
In the further course I come to Peitz, but only make a short stop at the ironworks.
The historic Peitz ironworks is located directly on the Peitzer ponds and is one of the most important technical monument areas in Brandenburg. It was founded around 1550 and is related to the construction of the fortress and the ponds, including the Hammergraben. The most valuable building is the blast furnace and foundry hall, originally preserved from 1810, which is now open to visitors as a technical museum. The indigenous lawn iron stone was processed here into wrought iron and cast products for household, trade and military use. In the middle of the 19th century, the smelting operation in Peitz was closed.
Finally, we went past the Hälterteich and Neuendorfer Teich back to the Mouse Mill.

Despite the gusty wind, I was able to do a little lap. The Spree awaits with beautiful sections. The area after the Frauerdorfer Spreebrücke in the direction of Neuhausen is a bit more difficult to navigate. On the one hand, there have been a few tree trunks crisscrossing there for a long time, on the other hand, the path runs extremely close to the shore in places. This is a bit tricky, especially on the wet leaves. But everything went well.

New Year New luck. And so it went on again, even if the weather couldn't have been more gloomy. Nevertheless, there was an interesting tour through part of the Muskau Arch.I started at the former Friedrichshain train stop in the direction of Felixsee, but I left it on the right and thus somehow left. Many new information boards lined the path through the Geopark, which I partly crossed on paved bike paths. Not the worst idea after the damp and wet weather recently. In continuation of the tour towards Reuthen, another sign points to the so-called Finkenstein.
According to the story, this is said to have been named after a forester Finke, who was once struck by lightning.
The 20 ton stone is after the Teufelsstein near Trzebiel (Poland) the second largest of its kind in the entire Muskau fold.
In addition to the manor park in Reuthen, with its partially hidden sights, I also get stuck on the church ruins again and again. Finally we went back to Friedrichshain, through the varied and interesting landscape shaped by the Ice Age and mining.

      Not the last hour
      but the last lap
      in the old year,
      that was clear.
      Because tomorrow it's on again
that is good for me and makes me happy.
No matter how far, where, with whom,
      doing nothing is somehow inconvenient.
🍀🍀🍀Thank you Cori for the great idea to close the year. As always, it was a lot of fun. 🙂🙃🙂🤗😘
