A very, very beautiful, mostly lonely and above all very, very quiet late summer circuit in very beautiful nature 🤗👍👌😄😉 The path was not particularly strenuous, rather flat, with all sorts of surfaces and very varied, especially always with beautiful views of the Environment💪😎😄 - highly recommended pleasure tour 😎😁😄😆💪

Today we went to Lanciano in the southern part of Abruzzo to finish our vacation. Lanciano is beautifully situated in the province of Chieti approx. 50 km from Chieti and approx. 15 km from the coast.
Lanciano was founded in pre-Christian times and was under Byzantine rule until the end of the 6th century. In 1515 the place became the center of the diocese of Lanciano-Ortona, which was founded by Pope Leo X.
Lanciano became particularly important during the Second World War, when an internment camp for women was initially set up here. In the following period the place became a center of resistance against the German occupiers. After the Allied conquest, the Germans bomb the city. In total, more than 500 residents lost their lives in the course of the war, mainly as a result of German punitive actions.
Lanciano became known primarily for the so-called Eucharistic miracle that is said to have taken place here in the early Middle Ages.

Today I went on a bike tour in the morning, which this time was an experience not only because of the beautiful and varied landscape, but also partly very, very demanding in terms of driving technique: slopes of 20% and more (no exaggeration !!!) 🥶, sometimes very difficult surface 😠 and above all a very wavy profile 🤷‍♂️. But what can you say: The landscape was again simply terrific !! A tour with a great pleasure factor ... 😎😊😉😀🤗

It is difficult to find words for this bike tour: sensational, outstanding, very varied, gigantic, the whole thing is insufficiently described 🥰😎🤗💪👌👍 An old abbey from the 14th century in a small mountain village, an extremely diverse and varied landscape and Over and over again outstanding views of the Adriatic coast are only three examples 🏖🧁😍 of the experience today. The path was not particularly attractive at the beginning and at the end, because it led directly along the busy SS 150, but then ... 👍👌😄 it was a great experience today ... 🚴‍♂️🏖🧁💪👍👌 Thanks to BMZ for the final kick to the tour 👍👏🙋‍♂️

Civitella del Tronto - the second stop today - in the province of Teramo sits enthroned at approx. 590 m above sea level on a rocky hill with a view of the valleys of the Vibrata and Salinello rivers above the landscape. It is certainly one of the most worthwhile and most impressive excursion destinations in Abruzzo and has been on the list of the "most beautiful villages in Italy" since 2008.
The landmark of Civitella is the Bourbon Fortress, which is considered a masterpiece of military and fortress architecture and covers an area of approximately 25,000 m2. It is the largest and most extensive fortress complex in all of Europe. Erected by the Spaniards in the middle of the 16th century to ward off enemies, this fortress was the last bulwark of the Kingdom of Naples against Garibaldi's troops on the way to Italian unification. Strategically, it is on the border of the former kingdoms of Abruzzo and Marche.
The old town of Civitella with the impressive view of the surrounding area and the narrow and beautiful streets should definitely be visited 🤗💪👍😉😎

Today's tour was not under the motto: "The way is the goal", but rather: "The goal determines the way". First along the tourist coast in Silvi Marina we went right uphill to Silvi Paese, the old district of Silvi. But then there are only superlatives: sensational, outstanding, gigantic ... 😎😁😀👍👌🥰💪 The place with its small alleys, a beautiful central square and above all the unique view of the Adriatic coast make the effort of the ascent quickly forgotten - sensational 🤗😊🥰😀😇😎 and unreservedly recommended.
Silvi Alta (or Paese) was founded in the Middle Ages by fishermen who moved from the area of today's Silvi Marina to the mountains. In 1971 the seat of the entire municipality of Silvi was relocated to Silvi Marina, because this district on the coast developed better than the mountain village of Silvi Paese.

The first stop in the "Riserva naturale di Majella" (National Park Majella) was the beautiful, small mountain village Roccamorice at approx. 520m above sea level, which is lonely in the province of Teramo and far away from civilization on a ridge. From here you have a sensational view of the hilly surroundings of this unique national park. Roccamorice has about 930 inhabitants and is representative of a typical Abruzzo mountain village with small shops and nice cafes. A "must-see" in Majella.

The second stop today was the town of Guardiagrele, whose old town is located on the top of a hill at almost 600 m above sea level at the foot of the Majella massif and in the immediate vicinity of the Majella National Park. The town itself offers views over the Majella, the hill country and the distant sea. The poet Gabriele D’Annunzio described Guardiagrele as the “balcony of Abruzzo” because of its panorama.
The first settlement - probably around 500 AD - originally happened at the foot of the hill on which the old town is today. The first documented name of this settlement was Aelion. Later the name became Graelion, and finally Grelis. To protect the village, a watchtower was built on the hill above the village of Grelis in the 9th century (the Torione, which today stands in Piazza Garibaldi), around which the first residential structures soon also formed. Because of the higher quality of life on the hill (at that time mainly due to the more favorable sewage situation and consequently better hygiene) this district developed, from which one can enjoy a wonderful view of the surrounding area.

A very beautiful and scenic route - at least in the 2nd part - very recommendable route👍🙂😊. In the first part gradually through Roseto degli Abruzzi pure tourism 😖🤔🤨: one bar on the other on the beach and in the village one guesthouse after the other - not nice ... 😭🥶🤦‍♂️ The second part then towards Scerne di Pineto South as you imagine Abruzzo 😄😁😆: a very beautiful view of the sea on one side and a beautiful view of the mountains on the other side of the bike path - simply wonderful 👍🏖🚴‍♂️ Also Pineto with its churches, cafes and shady places is worth a visit 💪👌😎😉 I found the developed bike path directly on the coast especially great 🚴‍♂️🏖🚴‍♂️ Overall: very nice tour to get started. 🤗😅🙂😊😁😎
