„Ich fahre nicht Rad, um mein Leben um Tage zu ergänzen. Ich fahre Rad, um meine Tage mit Leben zu ergänzen.“ – Unbekannt"Quäl dich, du Sau" – Udo Bölts
The charm of Szczecin has not yet become apparent to us on foot. There are just too many lane and busy roads.
So today the skates were used that I had actually packed for morning laps on the Baltic Sea beach promenade. I'm only halfway reconciled. There is a great bike path along the Oder, which is unfortunately only a few 100 m well paved. Otherwise a lot of rough pavement and abruptly ending bike paths

I already knew the Brand airfield including the associated barracks (komoot.de/tour/208600249), but only found out after exploring rdf231 and Taximichl (komoot.de/tour/368415345 , komoot.de/tour/370955202) learn that there is still more to discover. Before the visit, I was a little nervous, but I fit through the entrance well. The inside is impressive and has probably already seen one or the other party. As Taximichl describes in the highlight, it was one of 3 places in the GDR where nuclear weapons were stored. On the way back I discovered an old dairy in Märkisch Buchholz while driving past.

Before going home, we climbed the Hohenkarpfen again - as we actually do on every visit to the area. The Komoot relay hike will pass right here next weekend (komoot.de/user/staffel?ref=imk)
The Hohenkarpfen can be easily integrated into either stage E 143 or E 144, both of which are still free

On the way to dinner tonight, I had the opportunity to visit Spaichingen's new mountain bike downhill route for the first time. But nobody was in the mud on the way. The route seems to be controversial. Since it opened a few days ago, there have been two nail attacks 😬High on the Risiberg we went on the Butterwegle. According to the highlight labeling, the farm's agricultural products used to be transported into the valley here

During a hike around the Schermützelsee in winter, I noticed 3 ruins in Buckow that I visited today, one of which had already been torn down.Hardly anything can be seen of the old FDGB recreation home "Haus Tirol", because of the danger of collapse, I only took a quick look inside.
oldthing.de/Buckow-Maerkische-Schweiz-FDGB-Erholungsheim-Haus-Tirol-Kat-Buckow-Maerkische-Schweiz-0023595778The FDGB bed house on the Sandberg on Weinbergsweg makes a more stable impression, you can see the Schermützelsee from the upper floors. The planned construction of a holiday settlement seems to be difficult because of the location in the nature park: moz.de/lokales/strausberg/urlaubssiedlung-statt-einer-ruine-48799494.html

Only recently, through some tours here, I realized that Poland is only a bike ride away and I was planning a trip to the westernmost part of Poland across from Hohenwutzen. After Haibike reported an open border (komoot.de/tour/394780025 - thank you!), I implemented the plan today. In addition to crossing the border (I haven't had that very often by bike) and my destination, the highlight was the ride on the Oder cycle path. I was there for the first time and was thrilled. The biggest challenge was the approx. 10 km on the dike of the old Oder between Wriezen and Neutornow. It went for kilometers through waist-high grass and undergrowth on perforated concrete slabs. That looked more relaxed when planning

At Schenkendorf Castle (also called Dracula Castle because a descendant lived there) I only visited an outbuilding, but the castle building also seems to be empty (maz-online.de/Lokales/Dahme-Spreewald/Mittenwalde/Schenkendorf -The-lock-deteriorates-visibly-and-therefore-counts-as-a-lost-place)I was more successful at the bunker of the border troops, I've passed here several times, but today I found the entrance for the first time. The complex is huge, so in order to end a visit successfully, one should carefully remember how one turned

I was here two years ago (komoot.de/tour/95942357), at that time there were filming on the site and the buildings looked reasonably intact - but those days seem to be over.I decided to visit after some reports here on Komoot and after the hospital was in the press a few weeks ago because of an illegal party (tagesspiegel.de/berlin/verstoss-gegen-corona-auflagen-polizei- loest-party-with-hundreds-of-guests-in-krankenhausruine-in-berlin-buch-auf / 27174662.html).The hospital opened in 1976 and was the largest hospital in Europe at the time. According to rbb (rbb888.de/themen/bauzombies-in-berlin0/pankow/ehemaliges-regierungskrankenhaus.html) only the "very highest" management level in the GDR was treated. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the hospital was operated by the Buch Clinic and then by Helios until 2007. Since then it's been empty. The government hospital is located directly next to the Stasi hospital (komoot.de/tour/358385646)

The Müggelhort forest restaurant has been empty since 2017, and there was a major fire in January 2021. It is now to be demolished and apartments to be built.Further information on the history including speculations about the accumulation of fires at Köpenick restaurants can be found here:
