      Ascent to the Alpspitze
From the mountain station of the Alpspitzbahn (Osterfelderkopf) you hike at a constant height to the start of the Nordwandsteig (signposted). The Nordwandsteig climbs gently in an easterly direction to the lower end of the striking summit roof of the Alpspitze, alternating tunnels, ladders and short via ferrata sections (difficulty A / B). At the end of the path you come to the grassy Oberkar, turn south and climb a wide rubble basin, gently rising to the east shoulder of the Alpspitze (signposted throughout).
In places, the further route is developed as a via ferrata (difficulty A). Now initially steeply on the shoulder, then in an almost constant incline through rocky terrain to the summit cross of the Alpspitze (2628m), which is not at the highest point. At the summit, an outstanding view of Garmisch and the opposite Kramerspitz, Hohen Ziegspitz as well as the Höllental and the Riffelspitzen. In the west, of course, the Jubiläumsgrat to the Zugspitze and in the south the impressive Blassengrat.Descent from the Alpspitze
From the highest point of the Alpspitze, a signposted path leads down into the Grieskarscharte with a stimulating scramble, whereby the most difficult places are secured with wire ropes. In the Grieskarscharte you turn right into the Matheisenkar. The further path leads down to the valley floor almost completely secured (via ferrata B / C) and in places very steep and / or exposed. Via ferrata set is also pleasant for the experienced, rockfall helmet is recommended, especially if several mountaineers are on the way! The cleverly laid out path leads through intersections, gullies and ridges into the deep valley floor.
Once there, you enter flatter terrain again and after crossing a rubble field you come to a clearly visible path that leads in many switchbacks out of the Matheisenkar and down to the Höllentalangerhütte.

      Hochiss via ferrata (C / D, 110 m, 50 min.)
As part of the 5 summit via ferrata, you can reach the saddle between Hochiss and Spieljoch coming from the Spieljoch summit either via the Spieljoch Westgrat KS or via the normal route and then a short ascent into the saddle. Of course, you could also commit the Hochiss KS independently of the remaining parts of the 5 summit KS, then you can climb up directly from the cable car via the hiking trail. From the notch between Hochiss and Spieljoch, follow the normal route to the Hochiss summit for about 20 minutes until you reach the first rock formations and the entrance to the right. Attention, the entrance to the via ferrata is easy to miss!
The steep entry pier awaits you with a few C passages in flat rock. Then you can relax a bit in the rugged, grassy middle part of the KS and prepare for the steep end. The beautiful compact slabs there require some friction climbing (up to C / D) before you reach the highest peak of the Rofan directly at the exit.

We walk from the mountain station past the Erfurter Hütte to a large overview board. From here it goes straight on for a short while. Before a small alpine hut we turn right and follow the sign to the Haidachstellwand. Shortly afterwards we hike down into a small depression and squeeze our way through a small crevice. Afterwards the path leads slowly uphill again and we hike over open alpine meadows towards the Haidachstellwand.
After a longer slope crossing, the path turns left and winds its way up a grassy slope to the summit of the Haidachstellwand. After about 1 ¼ hours of walking we reach a striking saddle. From here we climb over a ridge to the summit rocks. Via Schrofen we get to the key point, where a short but vertical climbing passage, defused with a wire rope and step bars, has to be overcome.
After the climb, there is again rugged terrain. Be careful, on the right side it goes straight down. After the last crags, we reach the large summit plateau of the Haidachstellwand. From the summit cross we enjoy the view of the Dalfazer walls, the Hochiss, the Rofanspitze, the Roßköpf ...
Rosskopf via ferrata (C / D, 150 m ascent, 1.5 hours)The Rosskopf via ferrata is a partial section of the Achensee 5-summit via ferrata, which is the most difficult stage!
From the Grubajoch, a path leads to the left directly under the walls of the Rosskopf (risk of falling rocks !!!) to the start of the new, difficult via ferrata.
The start sets the pace right away. It goes up the almost vertical wall (C / D) very directly - with a few staples as step aids. Then you cross a band (B) and a meadow (A) slightly to the right - in this area, those who climb ahead should be careful not to step on loose rock! Over a small upswing and then well stepped it goes (B) along the ridge without difficulty to the summit cross of the Rosskopf. Then secured from the summit (B) down into the nameless yoke between Rosskopf and Seekarlspitze. The Seekarlspitze is then the continuation of the Achenseer 5-summit via ferrata and represents summit number 3 of the project (difficulty C). After the Seekarlspitze, you descend comfortably over a wide grass ridge into a wide depression and then, without difficulty (A), to the summit (without cross) of the Spieljoch - from here back to the starting point at the mountain station of the Rofanseilbahn / Erfurter Hütte.

Today is the last stage of the Via Claudia Augusta, which will bring you to the end point in Altino on the Adriatic Sea.Right at the beginning you can really pedal again and cycle up a small ascent that leads you through idyllic wooded areas and lush green meadows. As soon as you have mastered the ascent, a rapid descent follows, which takes you past the impressive Castello di Susegana and picturesque vineyards. Eventually it becomes flatter and you always cycle slightly downhill through beautiful fields and orchards.About halfway you pass the pretty city of Treviso, which enchants with its numerous canals. A stroll through the old town is worthwhile here. From Treviso the cycle path then leads you to the Sile River, where you cycle along the water for a while until the Via Claudia Augusta finally leads you dead straight over the fields, draws a small loop on the Santa Maria Canal and takes you to the ancient Altino. The old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta, which you followed from Germany across the Alps, ends here. At the end of the exciting bike tour, you can visit the excavations and exhibits around Altino. To continue your journey from here, you can cycle to the train station in Quarto d'Altino or directly to the nearby Venice airport.

In Trento you leave the Adige Valley to the east and drive back into the mountains. Although they are not as high as the Alps further north, the elevation profile is varied and there are a few vertical meters. At the gates of Trento you can immediately climb into the Fiemme Valley Alps. On this first ascent you will overcome most of the vertical meters in one go, after which you will continue moderately at the same height. Here you come through many small towns and villages that are ideal for both a short break and a longer rest. There are even overnight accommodations if you want to shorten the stage.About halfway you cycle alternately through wine-growing areas and refreshingly shady forest. In the clearings you have a wonderful view over the Lago di Levico, which lies at your feet in the valley. This is also where the highest point of the stage is reached and after a relaxing descent it goes on a relatively flat route to the stage destination Borgo. The charming place on the Brenta especially enchants with its old town, which is built directly on the river.

Today, on the ninth stage, the route is largely flat from Bozen to Trento, where the Via Claudia Augusta forks.Right at the beginning of the tour you will pass Sigmundskorn Castle, an impressive medieval fortress that stands high above the Adige on a steep rock near Bozen. Incidentally, one of Reinhold Messner's six mountain museums is located in the castle. On the well-developed bike path you then cycle further south through picturesque orchards and often directly along the banks of the Adige. On these sections you can enjoy the view of the river that meanders through the mountain-lined valley. For the small and large breaks in between, there are now and then fountains on the bike path where you can fill up the water bottle, and small places that invite you to stop off.In Trento, the stage destination, which is surrounded by mountains, there are many overnight accommodations and a train station if you want to continue by train. The Via Claudia Augusta also divides into two routes here. If you want to continue, you can either really drive again through the mountains to Altino near Venice or you cycle comfortably through the Adige Valley via Verona to the Po.
