Today, Sunday, a promising tour was announced. Of course it was a bit hazy, so you couldn't see too far, but that didn't matter. And we came closer to our goal set on 01/01/2021 of visiting all of the SAV towers with two towers.
So we first climbed the tower on the Katharinenlinde, then we looked from the core tower into the Neckar and Rems valleys. Then it went on past the Stettener Schloss to the Y-Burg with a view of the Remstal. Last but not least, we visited the Serach manor (or castle).
The route was not that strenuous, as it went up and down a few times and the paths were relatively steep. So we partly earned our evening meal with a drink and ice cream in a snail's way.
Some sections were quite adventurous with climbing tours over trees or muddy areas that wanted to be avoided.
And if you dig a little deeper into history, you will find the Gemmingen Kraichgau nobility again on this tour. Johann Friedrich Cotta von Cottendorf, who has proven to have 56 estates around the Serach castle, was married to Elisabeth von Gemmingen-Guttenberg as a second marriage.
All in all, a successful round that lets you sleep well ...

Phew! ... What a tour. You are used to the Kraichgau, the Odenwald, Black Forest and the Alb and then something like that ... You are actually faced with an almost insurmountable steep climb in the Worms area. 🤣
No - total flatland tour with a few waves.
Along our way there were some smaller "highlights" and also a deer jumping through the field and a hare that trained hooking between the vines.
Herrnsheim Castle is almost impossible to visit - only with guided tours, which are currently not taking place. The castle park, in turn, is freely accessible.
And there it is again: the connection between Schloss Herrnsheim and Kraichgau: that was how a later owner, Freiherr von Heyl married Helene, née von Gemmingen-Hornberg. The trained eye will of course immediately recognize the Gemmingen coat of arms as an alliance coat of arms.
There were also some prospects - from the Palatinate and the Donnersberg to Bergstrasse.
The tour was very varied, but it wouldn't be anything in the heat and in total sun, as there were hardly any shady spots.

What began as a Sunday stroll with coffees in the nostalgic cafe became quite adventurous as soon as we had crossed the Jagst. On this side of the bank you probably don't have to deal with hikers. Closed paths because of quiet areas for the wild animals, that's completely ok. Meter-wide forest paths milled into the slopes 🤔 that suddenly ended on the slope, mapped paths and stinging nettle walls that have disappeared .. ..... Finally we gave up and returned via dirt roads. But the area is beautiful 😄

Some roads today led to points where there was no further progress. So there was a new forest highway that stopped at a turning point from which it was impossible to continue on foot. Another path has been left to nature recently (there is even a warning and you enter the path at your own risk) - suddenly you stand in front of a wall of nettles ... So it went back the way you came a couple of times.
Assumstadt Castle is privately owned and therefore cannot be visited. Unless you want to celebrate or host a wedding there. But in the castle park there are a few deer that you can watch from the path. And there is also a nice little café.
The town of Züttlingen, on the other hand, has good and bad sides - the bad side is in the direction of Assumstadt Castle an der Jagst. There are some empty buildings here, which nature is slowly bringing back.
Oh, then there was Erenstein Castle. You can get to it on relatively steep paths. The moats and ramparts, a few old wall remains and the tower stump with a height of about one meter are still preserved here.
It also rained on the tour - but we used this time to have a cup of coffee and a piece of delicious fruit cake in the café at Schloss Assumstadt.
For the shortness of the tour, it was extremely adventurous, varied, funny and will probably stay in your memory for a while.

With increased solar radiation we continued today along the Neckarweg from Hoheneck to Pleidelsheim.
Quite a lot of asphalt, but the landscape is varied. So it went up and down with a few glances at the Neckar, which was tanned with mud due to the last few days of storm.

The small animal park in Bretten was the second port of call today. So we could experience something and at the same time avoid the humid warmth. An ice cream at the end could not be missing.
There are a lot of animals here that can be petted, which of course is a real draw for families with children. But the older children also get their money's worth.
Exotic animals such as kangaroos and yaks can also be found here. Some of the four-legged friends were a bit dreamy, which was certainly also due to the warmth ...
