The hut of the Adneter Wandschützen stands on a rock face above Adnet. In the past, gunfire was used to drive away hail clouds, but today the wall snipers frame church festivals and traditional events. Is that still up to date? It is contemporary that there is a webcam in the hut with a beautiful view of the village and the mountains. I often consult this webcam when I'm looking for a fog-free area for hiking.Today we took a short walk to the Wandschützenhütte, to the marble quarries and to the Adneter Moos. Then it was 12 o'clock, Barbara was hungry and we drove to the Hammerwirt. There we both ate delicious sea bass fillet with cauliflower cream, baby spinach and coconut chili foam. Unfortunately I forgot to photograph this highlight of the day. We only heard a few times how the waiter on the next tables explained the menu and said, "Unfortunately, sea bass fillet is out".

The Buchberg is an 801 meter high mountain near Mattsee. A large part is designated as a nature park, in which there are various themed trails, the Vogelweg, the Kraftweg, the Sagenweg and others. The summit of the Buchberg is one of the oldest settlements in the country. The roots go back to the Bronze Age, the heyday was the Hallstatt period (800 - 500 BC).Our round today led from the fog into the sun and back into the fog. Today we chose the path of legends. Legends are described on boards and illustrated with children's drawings.
At the stop at the Gasthof Alpenblick we enjoyed warmth in bright sunshine and spaghetti with pumpkin vegetables.

"He who thinks he doesn't have a bird has a bigger bird than mine" - that's what a weird bird wrote on his house in Rottenegg (Mühlviertel). Obviously a keen fisherman, he has adorned his house with fish and birds all over his place, as well as photographs of catching larger and larger fish.It was an easy but beautiful hike through the undulating Mühlviertler landscape, green on the sunny side and often white on the other. At the end we stopped at the Pizzeria La Ruffa in Urfahr. I ate a delicious arugula pizza and put lots of garlic oil on it. But that was probably not the reason that I had so much space all to myself in the Railjet.

The northern bald ibis died out in Central Europe around the 17th century. Resettlement projects have been started in recent years, including in Kuchl near Salzburg and Burghausen. The birds winter in Tuscany. Interestingly, northern bald ibises from different colonies start their migration south on the same day. Presumably there are climatic triggers that are not yet known.
Great effort is made for young birds that have been raised by humans and do not know the route: Light aircraft are used to fly in front of them. In fact, they find their way back in the spring. You can find more information on the Waldrapp.eu website, where you can also find information on how to follow the route of the birds live, which have GPS transmitters attached to their backs.
Since we were out and about in snow and cold today and unfortunately not in warm Tuscany, we only saw the rocks where they breed and not the birds themselves. We stopped at the Enes Kebap Pizza in Golling, falafel plates and kebab plates. The snack bar, where I've often gotten excellent pizzas and other things than take away, is rated 4.7 on google maps. That's really justified. But don't expect comfort.Incidentally, we felt the increased "control pressure" threatened by our Federal Chancellor Nehammer today firsthand: several police officers took care of our 2G proofs.

Today's hike is taken from the book "Winterwanderungen im Salzburger Land" by Clemens Hutter. The destination of this hike, the late Gothic, later Baroque-style St. George's Church in Sommerholz, is worth a visit at any time of the year. Every year towards the end of August, cyclists fight their way up a 3.4 km long route with 250 m ascent to the church as part of the Sommerholz mountain sprint. I also always ride my bike in the area. There was a stop today at the Greischbergerhof shortly before the end of the tour: Braised hare leg in pepper sauce with bread dumplings and red cabbage (me), folded dumplings in onion soup and baked semolina slices with sugar, cinnamon and applesauce.

Traunkirchen, the pearl of the Salzkammergut - that's how you learn it at school, at least in this area. And it's true: a place steeped in history and a scenic gem with the picturesque backdrop of the Johannesberg, Traunsee and Traunstein. You don't even know where to start raving about. The sun would add even more shine to this splendor, but the weather suited the occasion of the visit, a funeral.I can also rave about the food at Hotel Post (a toque according to the Gault Millaut Guide): Oven pumpkin on couscous with carrot foam and hazelnut 😋. How creative!

I've wanted to see the modern Resurrection Chapel in Straß im Attergau since I heard about it through the builder award in 2021. Today was the day. Signposts lead to the chapel, otherwise it would not be easy to find it in the small town, it is so hidden behind houses. It impresses with its simplicity and the amount of wood that smells wonderful in the interior.I looked for a second architectural jewel, more than 500 years older, on my tour today, the Gothic Laurentius Church in Abtsdorf. In Attersee am Attersee I had the choice of either going back straight away - or going out to eat and driving two hours later. I decided not to eat because I was running late today. Hopefully that won't start school in the new year🤔. I want to support the catering industry even before the next lockdown😷😷.

Gerling, Walding etc. - Austrian place names ending in -ing, are found mainly in the Upper and Lower Austrian plains along the Danube. It is about Germanic / Slavic language heritage from the time between 750 and 1050. One speaks of "inmate names". If you read into it a little, things get complicated, there are real and fake names ...
This is clearly too much for New Year's Day, a short hike from Gerling into the Pesenbachtal is enough.
In summer the white water landscape in the Pesenbachtal near the Danube is probably interesting.

Maria Plain is a place of pilgrimage in Bergheim north of Salzburg. I knew that there are natural burials for people there.Only today did I notice that there is also a natural burial for animals nearby. I hadn't even known that something like this was even offered for animals. Incidentally, currently 20 percent discount. What a topic for a cloudless, unusually warm, spring-like New Year's Eve🤔!There’s something nice to eat today at 7:00 p.m.A good, healthy, enjoyable, exciting year 2022 for everyone who comes by here🍻🥂🎂🍾

I wanted to see what the Gollinger waterfall looks like this winter. Full of scruples, I stepped over the barrier and started walking. I got a bit higher than last winter. This time the path was free of ice and snow, but the wooden steps and footbridges were wet and slippery, so I preferred to turn back.
I am amazed at the nonchalance with which the two groups of tourists who came towards me had obviously broken the road barrier - I would never dare to do that abroad, and how these lowland tourists had apparently fearlessly made it to the top waterfall. Enviable🧐.
I stopped by the Göllhof. Despite traditional cuisine from farmer's feast to cordon bleu, I found what I was looking for, with fish: I ate very good baby pikeperch fillet.
