Discovering the trail of an Alpine mystery – the Edelweißsteig

The edelweiss is a natural treasure which is unfortunately rarely seen today. However, lucky hikers still regularly come across this star-shaped Alpine flower in the Tyrolean Nauders on the Reschenpass. Starting in the heart of this dream-like place, the Edelweißsteig, as the name suggests, takes you to the hidden corners where you will find the alpine star. You can hike along two different routes towards the 7,637 foot (2,328 meters) mountain.

In this Collection, we present both alternative routes. It is up to you to decide whether you want to choose variant 1, the demanding and well-secured via ferrata, or the classic, but no less scenic, variant 2 hiking trail. On both routes, you will experience a unique and unforgettable side of nature.

To ensure your search for this rare plant is successful, you should keep a few things in mind. Firstly, plan your hike between July and September as the edelweiss blooms in the meadows along the route at this time. Secondly, don’t forget that the edelweiss is under strict nature protection. For you (and all other hikers) this means: admire it, but please don't pick it.

Last but not least you should, as always, wear comfortable shoes and, if you decide to go for the via ferrata variant, pack the appropriate equipment. Then, your journey into the fascinating world of the legendary mystery can begin.
