5-6 day Hike Lapland: Abisko (Sweden) to Narvik (Norway)

This hike takes you in 5 to 6 days from Abisko (Sweden) to Beisfjord (Norway; near Narvik). We took our time, stayed in cabins, wild camped and explored the area. We hiked the trail in september in good weather and enjoyed the most beautiful autumn colours. The route can be wet and marshy but is not too steep or challenging, except from the last stretch to Beisfjord.Swedish STF huts were closing around 15 september. Norwegian DNT huts were self serviced and open all year round for members with a DNT-key.Suggested itinerary:- Day 1: when exiting the sleeper train from Oslo to Abisko Turiststation, hike a few km's on the Kungsleden trail to Nissunjohka camp site. Here you can pitch your tent for free (it is not allowed to camp in other places in Abisko National Park!).- Day 2: hike to STF cabin Abiskojaure on the Kungsleden trail. Here you leave the Kungsleden to head towards Unna Allakastuga. There are some good wildcamping spots along the river.- Day 3: continue to Unna Allakastuga. Continue into Norway to Cunojávrihytta. - Day 4: follow the marked trail to Hunddalshytta. On your way, you will pass an emergency cabin (Oallavagge) that is always open. It has a gas stove and compost toilet. We camped near the cabin. Alternatively, you can continue to Hunddalshytta.- Day 5: continue to Hunddalshytta.- Day 6: from Hunddalshytta follow the trail to Beisfjord. In wet weather, this route can be a bit challenging since you have to cross some slippery stretches of rock just past Helligvatnet. From Beisfjord, you can take a buss to Narvik.
Alternatively, you can hike from Hunddalshytta to Katterat Fjellstue and take a train to Narvik or back to Abisko. Useful Apps:
