The Jura Mountains have a unique character and offer cyclists an incredible playground to explore. Located along the French-Swiss border, nature reigns supreme in this mosaic of landscapes, offering a unique and authentic cycling experience.
Gravel sport is become increasingly popular in the region and it now has its own version of the Grande Traversée du Jura (Great Jura Crossing). The wonderful forest paths, single trails, lakes and moors offer a fabulous mix of challenges and vistas.
The Jura massif stretches for almost 360 kilometres (223 mi). The Saut du Doubs, with its deep valleys and meandering rivers, is an ideal and challenging playing field. Further south the Ain river winds through gentle reliefs. The routes lead through untouched natural landscapes, wine-growing areas and historic regions where cultural heritage and local cuisine are alive. Finally, in the Jura, the plateaus mix with breathtaking panoramas.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced cyclist, these gravel routes invite you on a journey of discovery where nature, culture and adventure merge into an unforgettable experience. Of course, it's important to eat well when cycling and the local cheeses will help you tackle the climbs!
We recommend a gravel bike with a light gear ratio to handle the inclines and tyres with a width of at least 40 millimetres for more comfort on the gravel sections. You can reach some starting points by train.
Accept the challenge and let yourself be surprised by the wild beauty of the Jura!
