Mecklenburg Lake District – hiking in the Land of a Thousand Lakes

Love lakes and forests? Then the Müritz National Park, located in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District, is the right place for you. Enjoy the peace and quiet on the narrow hiking trails through the woods and push your everyday stress aside. Observe the birds in their hustle and bustle and with a bit of luck you may even see a white-tailed eagle. The region around the Müritz, the largest German lake, is diverse. You hike past moors, meadows, swamps and ponds. And, as you'll pass so many lakes as you go, you will always find nice bathing spots to cool down. Thanks to the many observation towers, you can still keep an overview and enjoy wonderful views into the distance. If you want to have it a bit more lively every now and then, you will find entertainment in cities such as Waren, Neustrelitz or Röbel. If you are interested in history, you can explore historical sites around the Müritz from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period.

The best season to hike along the Müritz is from May to the end of September. Watch spring awaken, refresh yourself in one of the lakes on a hot summer's day or admire the Mecklenburg Indian summer in autumn. In the colder months, many places are closed, so check the opening hours before you leave. The public transport in and around the national park - be it bus or ship - is also restricted during the colder months.

The city of Waren an der Müritz is your starting point for these seven day Tours. With the different lengths of the routes, there is something for everyone and you'll find everything you need in Waren, from accommodation and restaurants to shops and entertainment. By bus, train or boat you can get to the starting points and back again. There is a separate timetable for the National Park.
