I recruited the Trust’s operations team, developed the current UK National Standard for Cycle Training based on four core functions, introduced Ofqual-regulated qualifications for instructors and instructor trainers, reformed the Bikeability grant administration and quality assurance systems, created the Bikeability Adult and Bikeability Family training courses, piloted the Cycle Savvy Driving course for approved driving instructors, and designed the Bikeability impact evaluation that persuaded government to offer cycle training to every child in England .Here’s how I cycle: combine the four core functions - look, prioritise, position, communicate - in systematic routines on every journey, and continue learning how to cycle consistently, competently and confidently to the National Standard.
