A fantastic panorama lines the German Wine Cycle Route: picturesque vineyards stretching to the green hills of the Palatinate Forest, quaint wine growing villages with traditional taverns that invite you to take a break and pretty castles perched on lofty hills. The official cycle path leads you 95 kilometres (59 mi) through the sun-drenched Palatinate region.

Between the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine plain, the German Wine Cycle Route leads from the north southwards to the French border. The starting point is in Bockenheim at the House of the German Wine Route, which you can easily reach by train. Over three stages, you cycle through Germany's largest wine-growing region to Schweigen-Rechtenbach, where the German Wine Gate marks the southern beginning of the Wine Route. From there, it's a stone's throw to Wissembourg in France, where you can catch the train back.

On your adventure along the German Wine Cycle Route, you can look forward not only to beautifully asphalted cycle paths, but also to good facilities. All stage destinations can be reached by train if you want to take a shortcut or if the weather doesn't cooperate. Accommodation options can be found almost everywhere along the trail, not only at the stage destinations.
